The Beginning of The End

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

So I’ve been working on this montage for a bit now, things have held me back from finishing it faster, mostly the excessive amount of working I’ve been doing.
This marks the beginning of the real NC fall and cold weather’s right around the corner. A few of the tricks of Murphy and Justin were poached and put online, so sorry about that, but here we go, let’s enjoy the sunshine while we still have it.
My dad has a beautiful voice and I’m glad I got to use it in this clip.
enjoy.

featuring in no particular order: Josh Brown, Josh Bowman, Bob Reynolds, Justin Brock, Dan Murphy, Alex Traboulsi, Ryan Verderber, Joey Jones, Matt Brokal, Scotty Moore, Sturgil Horn, Brett Abramsky, John Futch, Gabe Barboza, Rich Coman, Ricky Covach, Daniel Johnson, Robbie Kerr, Massey Bick, Connor Champion.

My feet hurt.

Showdown success: Thanks to Tony, Frank and everyone for making it that way. It’s always a pleasure, now I have to nurse my knees and heel bruises from jumping to flatbottom from 7 feet repeatedly. Here are some photos that Jay Smith took as well as some from my camera. I’ll be putting together a very short clip in the near future. I also watched Moon yesterday. That movie is tight.

An amazing bail photo of richard in the mix.

Big Whoop, Wanna Fight About It?

I love My Chemical Romance and no, I don’t shop at Hot Topic or hate my parents (unless it’s a Friday night and I’m going to Jamie Thomas’ house or my parents don’t tuck me in).
It may be because I love Freddie Mercury’s Queen and there is a resemblance in flamboyance and character in the music , or it may be because these guys are totally insane and put out great operatic records without a single bad song on them every time.
It seems like this time around MCR are directing their musical attention towards a post-nuclear -neo Clockwork Orange Armageddon and that is fine with me. I can’t wait for the album to drop, here is a video for their single “na na na”. Just strapped up my boots and let a ferret crawl up my JNCO’s…that tickles…

The iPad: THE Official Review.

Monday, October 11th, 2010

I recently received an iPad as a gift. Two contrasting emotions filled me as I stared at the shiny white Apple box with the perfectly lit photograph of the tablet printed on the front; excitement and defensiveness.
My fellow Interactive Media Alumni will remember my haste in dismissing this device as a shitty toy with no real benefit to the technology spectrum we are all living in.
The first thing I did when I opened up the box was try to figure out all the secret features and button combinations, as well as understand how the iPad’s hard drive functions worked but guess what, there are none.
The iPad is simply what it is in the photograph (to me and most others who use the device, a consumer who doesn’t need work specific apps to ease their workload) a gigantic iPod touch.
I decided to roll with it and download a few apps, including ‘Paint’, where after downloading it, I drew multicolored penises for about 10 minutes before I got bored and moved on to download ‘Robot Unicorn Attack’ by [adult swim] games, (another relatively boring play only saved by a sweet Erasure song), and then some sort of Tech Deck game that Cecil had on his iPod years ago that I have to admit is pretty damn hard and fun. I spent about an hour searching through the App Store not really coming up on anything that would make my life easier, just more and more games, scientific stuff I didn’t understand or have any need for, and various calorie counting gems that I laughed at as I ate my bacon sandwich.
I have to admit, I had given up on this thing, it seemed pretty whack, especially for 700 bucks, (I have the 64 gig one, suck it nerds)
I decided to search the Googly for the ten most desired iPad apps and after filtering through a few pages I’m glad I did. I realized that some of these apps had truly used the iPad’s beautiful display to their benefit. A great Twitter app that does a great job of organizing and displaying tweets and is easy to navigate, as well as an awesome IMDB app that is calm to the eyes and mind in case you want to learn more about Deborah Messing’s tired and disgusting face at the tap of a button.
Then I discovered the holy grail; the one thing that brought a huge smile to my unflawed and terribly handsome face: Netflix.
I’ve had a Netflix account for about half a year now and it rules. I regularly punch myself in the balls for not taking Brandon’s advice earlier and signing up for this Internet wet dream.
I had assumed that Netflix’s player was Flash based and that the iPad wouldn’t soil itself with such a thing. I was wrong. There is nothing quite like sitting down with the newest Art film about a confused young man and his sexual encounters with farm animals in the palm of your hands. I also bought Stay Gold from the iTunes store and use the the easy to manage slider to fast forward through Figgy’s part pretty regularly.

The final consensus? The iPad is not worth the money. Sorry. It is exactly what I always thought it was; a toy. I can’t do shit on it except watch movies from Netflix, spend money on Apps I don’t need and play video games that I get bored of immediately. All things I can do on my desktop while streaming beautiful Flash video of Chris Cole wearing leather wristbands and Greg Lutzka trying to redeem his credibility as an uninterested crowed boos over Rob Dyrdek’s calibrated scoring.
HOWEVER, This doesnt make the iPad uncool. It is. It’s actually really cool. For a toy. My beef with this thing is the way people tried to hype it up into something that it isn’t. Sure, bringing this thing to a meeting and playing an HTML5 Vimeo video for a client is going to wow them, but why? Is it because they see it as a cool toy or because their preconceived notion of the iPad is that Jesus Christ sleeps with one under his soft, heavenly pillow.
If anyone has any suggestions for Apps please hit me up, try to change my mind, maybe one day I’ll be eating my words and I’m open to that. One thing though, I don’t read books or the news. That shit is boring. Get me a Cold One bro.

BLOWING IT.

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Yup, I have been busy. Very busy indeed. I havn’t had any time to search, review or post new interesting content in a while based on the fact that I have been working my ass off at a new job, preparing for an internship at another while focusing a lot of time on Brett and I’s company NPS.
In this regard I would like to apologize to those of you who regularly visit this blog to escape any sort of boredom. I am currently working on a few projects that will be pretty cool and premiering them on the site.

You can always check out my video NO CAPTIVITY on the left hand side of the page by clicking on the link, and I will be posting much needed new content soon.

Also, some news for those of us who grew up with this dude: we all knew it was gonna happen but it’s official http://www.elementskateboards.com/
and Flip’s response. which seems a bit suspect considering NHS produces Santa Cruz surf and snowboards and David Gonzales and Rowley ride for Volcom.
